Updated March 2026: Jo-Anna Nieves is the founder of The Nieves Law Firm, APC, and a criminal defense attorney dedicated to representing professionals and individuals facing serious criminal charges. Her practice focuses on defending cases involving DUI, assault and battery, drug offenses, domestic violence, theft crimes, fraud, and other complex criminal matters, as well as related civil litigation such as restraining orders for harassment, workplace violence, and elder abuse. Ms. Nieves began her legal career with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, where she gained experience prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases and developing her trial advocacy skills. After later litigating hundreds of cases as a trial attorney in private practice, she founded her firm in 2012. She is also active in legal education and mentorship, having taught Trial Advocacy at Stanford Law School and served as a mock trial coach for El Centro Legal de la Raza’s Youth Law Academy. Ms. Nieves currently serves as Vice President of the Alameda County Bar Association and is admitted to practice in California and Florida, as well as multiple federal district courts.
