Find what you need faster by searching across all our legal research content, then using filters to optimize your search. Anytime you start searching, you are offered a list of related search terms and possible content matches. If none of those suggestions are what you're looking for, click the search icon or hit enter to continue searching. Results are dynamically ranked under the All tab to provide the top three results from each content type, with the most relevant content at the top. This page gives a good sampling of the kind of information each content type provides. Our secondary sources are a wealth of knowledge that offer a deep understanding of legal topics, while being grounded in practical and actionable guidance. Cases, statutes, and rules of court are, as expected, your standard primary law results. And news results can offer insight into current events and recent cases related to your research. To view the full list of results for a specific content type, you can click the See All Results buttons throughout the page, or you can use the tabs just under the search bar to navigate through the full list of results. Just below the content tabs on each results page, you'll see the option to search within results, where you can include additional key terms to narrow your search of that type. To the right of the Search Within Results box, each content type has its own quick access filters. For secondary sources, you can narrow your results to forms only with a single click. The forms published in our sources are attorney drafted, downloadable Word documents that offer a strong starting point when drafting briefs and letters. To more precisely narrow your search results, click the blue filter search to the right of the content tabs. This will reveal the unique filters for that content type. The secondary source filters include practice area, titles book may have the information you need, and resource type. CEB news articles cover breaking legal news, legal analysis, practice management content, and long form reporting. By default, these results are sorted by relevance. To put the most recent articles at the top, sort by date. In addition to searching within results, you can filter the results by practice area. If case law is what you need and you plan to use in a court briefing, narrowing your results to published only is an easy start. And if you're wanting the most recent cases, sorting by date is a good next step. In addition to using keywords to search within results, narrowing by cause of action can be helpful to give you an idea of what claims people have sought under similar circumstances. This can inform your further research and can help you plan what evidence you need for your case. To find a more parallel case to your own, you might narrow by court, procedural posture, disposition, or appellant's trial court role. Note the TruSight flags next to each case. When looking at the statutes results, you can use a keyword search or filter by code. When viewing the rules of court search results, your only option to filter is by searching within the results. Note that filters used to narrow one list of results will not carry over to any other content type list of results, even when both content types contain the same filter, like practice area and searching within results.
