Adding to over 30 years of practice in land use, complex entitlement, and regulatory compliance at all jurisdictional levels, David Smith obtained his Master of Laws in energy and climate change. His clients are large landowners, developers, and other regulated entities requiring compliance counsel at the federal, state, regional, and local jurisdictional levels. Mr. Smith secured his BA from the University of California, Los Angeles; his J.D. from Pepperdine School of Law; and his LL.M. from Vermont Law & Graduate School. After spending 10 years in-house and almost a decade in a nationally prominent private firm, he launched his own firm in July 2025. Mr. Smith writes for publication and speaks publicly regularly. His master's thesis on carbon management in the context of climate and energy strategy was published in the Energy Law Journal in 2023.
