Betty Williams specializes in federal and state civil and criminal tax matters throughout the US. Her work includes appeals and settlements of income tax, employment tax, sales and use tax, and excise tax matters. Ms. Williams defends criminal clients and negotiates plea agreements in areas such as structuring and tax evasion. She has worked extensively on multi-state and residency nexus issues, and has obtained penalty abatement relief for her clients in the millions of dollars. Ms. Williams has a Masters of Laws in Taxation from Washington School of Law and graduated with distinction from the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law. Ms. Williams is the president of the California Lawyers Association; serves on the U.S. Tax Court Appointments Committee of the American Bar Association; is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel; and is a member of the California Office of Tax Appeals' external advisory committee. She also serves on the CJA Trial Panel for the Office of the Federal Defender. Ms. Williams has received numerous awards, and her firm was named a Metropolitan Tier 1 Tax Litigation "Best Law Firms" by U.S. News and World Report each year since 2013.
