Brent Riggs restricts his current practice to appointed appeals through Appellate Defender, Inc. Mr. Riggs received his law degree from the University of Chicago School of Law in 1969, after graduating from East Los Angeles College, then Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. As a deputy in the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney from 1970 to 2005, he tried 100 felony jury trials as well as misdemeanor trials and juvenile-court matters. In the DA's Appellate Division, Mr. Riggs represented the office in numerous writ and appellate proceedings at all state and federal court levels. Mr. Riggs has served on the State Bar's Committee on Professional Responsibility and on the Los Angles County Bar's Appellate Judicial Evaluations Committee. In addition to assisting in the preparation of a chapter in California Criminal Practice and Procedure, he has also participated in sessions of CEB’s annual updates in “California Criminal Law.”
