Kevin P. Bundy

Kevin Bundy represents community groups and public interest organizations in litigation and other matters involving the California Environmental Quality Act, local ballot measures, planning and zoning law, the federal Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act, and both state and federal climate policy and regulation. He has argued cases before the California Supreme Court, California Courts of Appeal, and the US Courts of Appeal for the District of Columbia and Ninth Circuits. Mr. Bundy also has represented clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, California Energy Commission, California Public Utilities Commission, and California Air Resources Board.

Mr. Bundy received his BA with highest honors from Oberlin College in 1993 and his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 2003. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable David W. Hagen of the US District Court for the District of Nevada and the Honorable Procter R. Hug of the Ninth Circuit US Court of Appeals. Mr. Bundy began his career at Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger in 2005, then worked with the Center for Biological Diversity as a Senior Attorney and Climate Legal Director for eight years. He returned to Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger in 2018, where he is now a partner. Prior to law school, Mr. Bundy spent several years advocating for ancient forest and endangered species protection on California’s North Coast.

Mr. Bundy regularly presents on CEQA issues and case law developments at professional conferences. He also serves as chair of his firm's Mentoring Committee. In 2016, Mr. Bundy received a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year award for his role in obtaining a precedent-setting decision from the California Supreme Court overturning an analysis of greenhouse gas emissions under CEQA for the Newhall Ranch project in Los Angeles County.
