Karl Nesler

Karl Nesler is an International Association of Arson Investigators Pro Board Certified – Certified Fire Investigator, and an experienced Special Investigative Unit investigator holding the International Association of Special Investigative Units – Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator designation. He successfully worked in the insurance industry for more than 28 years investigating and resolving complex automobile, homeowner, and commercial claims. Mr. Nesler is an investigation supervisor leading, coaching, mentoring, and guiding Fire Cause Analysis, Inc.’s investigators, helping them to conduct thorough, detailed, and evidence-based investigations to meet the standard provided by NFPA 1033, using the Scientific Method and the recommendations provided by NFPA 921, to give the company’s clients the information they need to properly resolve their matters.

Mr. Nesler graduated with a BA in Business and a minor in Computer Science from Gustavus Adolphus College. Over his careers, he has completed over 1,000 hours of fire investigation training and over 750 hours of insurance continuing education. Mr. Nesler retired after 28 years with State Farm Insurance, the last 18-1/2 years as a Special Investigative Unit Claim Specialist. Since 2018, he has been with Fire Cause Analysis as a Certified Fire Investigator and Investigation Supervisor.

Mr. Nesler has provided expert instruction over 40 times on the topics of to fire origin and cause; fire patterns; vehicle fires; interviewing and kinesics; evidence and spoliation; fire investigation for the insurance professional; claim investigation data analysis; mechanical damage (e.g., ‘other than hail’); National Insurance Crime Bureau – Suspicious Loss Indicators; and insurance fraud awareness. He has been a contributing co-author to Scientific Evidence and Expert Testimony - Chapter 6 since 2020.
