Wine Law Forum™ 2015: Promoting and Protecting AVAs

2 hours MCLE Credit

An appellation designation can be a valuable marketing asset, but you have to know how to use it. Securing AVA approval from the Department of Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (“TTB”) is just the first step for U.S. wine regions. The bigger challenge is in maintaining the viability of the AVA and promoting the AVA “brand.”

The TTB recently approved 11 new American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) designations for the Paso Robles area. Now the goal is to promote and protect the AVA. Further south, the well-established Sta. Rita Hills AVA is facing a petition that would expand its boundaries. Join us for a discussion with leaders from central California winegrower organizations.

Wine Law Forum™ 2015: Water and Wine—California

1.5 hours MCLE Credit

In the Spring of 2015, the Governor asked Californians—both residents and business—to reduce water use by 25%. However, vineyards and other agricultural enterprises, which use about 80% of California’s water, are exempt. As residents feel the impact of the drought more and more, California’s wine producers have become an easy political and media target. The last year has seen unprecedented water rights challenges and regulations. Our panelists will bring you up-to-date on the latest developments.
