Director, Content development

SUMMARY

The Director of Content Development will oversee the creation and curation all of CEB's legal content for delivery in its products and services. Incumbent is a successful leader with the ability to define, deliver, and manage innovative content technology and product solutions that provide the flexibility to support next generation business models and products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all content development processes relating to the legal content of publications, programs, and digital offerings including the product conceptualization; manuscript acquisition; program development, legal research, legal editing and legal writing.
  • Lead the execution of content strategy including technology, partnerships, and licensing. Develop and implement processes, to identify and to understand the practice needs of California lawyers and to develop and present a comprehensive, coordinated content curriculum, including new products.
  • Implement content management systems, rendering engines, quality assurance tools and automated workflows.
  • Create and manage the department revenue and expense budgets and institute controls to ensure content development costs conform to budget.
  • Identity new legal areas for CEB to cover and develop content around.
  • Maintain effective working relations with volunteer contributors, authors, State Bar sections and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with Product Strategy group for new product development and implementation. Oversee department management team and knowledge information staff.
  • Prioritize workload and manage resource utilization across department.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • 4-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • JD Degree and active State Bar membership preferred.
  • Experience developing content and content strategy including research, user experience, taxonomy and hierarchy of consumption for cross channel content requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate work to ensure completion of multiple assignments and adherence to deadlines.

Under general direction, this position is responsible for the full range of project management skills, new content development, original writing, legal editing, and legal research and analysis of both primary and secondary law. Incumbent must ensure accuracy, currency, practice orientation, and balance in CEB content. Incumbent is responsible for developing new products and repurposing existing content; for contributor recruitment, development, and good contributor relations; for providing Marketing with product benefits; and for regular participation in social networking and state bar activities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for project management of new titles, new editions and updates including meeting deadlines, creating and maintaining schedules, and overall responsibility for adhering to budgets.
  • Identify problems early and propose solutions and improvements that increase the efficiency of planning, creating, updating, maintaining, and curating content.
  • Ensure quality of assigned publications meets or exceeds CEB standards by reviewing content, assessing quality, and identifying potential gaps in coverage.
  • Assign, monitor and review legal editing projects of Legal Research Editor and provide feedback to Legal Research Editor and Content Development Manager as necessary.

  • Edit legal content, rewriting and reorganizing as necessary. Incorporate legal research to emphasize practice-orientation and accessibility. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • J.D. and admitted to State Bar of California or other jurisdiction.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant substantive law area -- minimum of 2+ years of related law practice experience or 2+ years of legal editing experience in Civil Litigation.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; demonstrated command of the English language.  
  • Excellent legal research skills including the use of electronic online research tools, such as Westlaw and Lexis, and citation verification programs.  
  • Excellent project management skills, including supervision of internal staff and resources and effective management of relations with contributors and co-workers.

 Community relations and public service manager

 SUMMARY

 

The Community Relations and Public Service Manager will be responsible for the cultivation, promotion, and program management of CEB's outreach and strategic partnerships, resulting in increased brand awareness, specifically targeting a few key groups: law students, new attorneys, bar associations and other affinity groups as well as increased dedication to public service. This position is expected to work independently on a variety of special projects assigned by the Go To Market Director or the Executive Director and other senior managers as needed.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships and agreements with partner organizations to maximize CEB's exposure to target legal populations and increase CEB's commitment to public service.

  • Develop and implement a sustainable long-term model for the promotion and delivery of CEB outreach programs.

  • Continually identify new opportunities for collaboration with partners and foster innovative approaches to outreach.

  • Identify performance objectives for outreach activities, target audiences, and corresponding strategies and timelines for meeting objectives.

  • Collect and identify appropriate data to support CEB outreach. Analyze and compare current and historical data, and develop trends.

  • Implement, manage and expand cultivation strategies to connect and engage new customers for CEB, notably among the law school, young lawyer population. Work in collaboration with senior staff to increase partnerships.

  • Represent CEB in outreach meetings and conversations both internally and externally.

  • Maximize partnerships with State Bar, Local Bar, University of California and pro bono organization to promote CEB's resources and promote our public service mission.

  • Attend, sponsor relevant law school, new attorney and legal community events and promote and represent CEB.

  • Manage and expand CEB's award ceremonies, including the Spirit of CEB Award and the Writing and Research Award.

  • Manage and oversee fundraising for special initiatives sponsored or co-sponsored by CEB.

  • Manage and oversee CEB's public service initiatives engaging with CEB staff and members of the legal community to drive awareness of CEB's mission
