LEGAL EDITOR II: CIVIL LITIGATION

This is a temporary appointment for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general direction, the Legal Editor II is responsible for evaluating, editing, rewriting and reorganizing complex manuscripts in addition to performing original writing and editing for style, organization, content, and emphasis. This position also tracks legal developments, performs legal research and applies his/her knowledge of the law specialty to evaluate manuscripts for value and rational development of content, validity of conclusions, and appropriate emphasis.

REQUIREMENTS: Substantive knowledge of civil procedure and litigation; strong writing, editorial and electronic legal research skills; interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills essential; ability to work independently; proficiency in electronic applications. J.D. required.

DESIRABLE: Civil litigation practice experience; active CA State Bar membership; publishing experience.

SR. PROGRAMMER ANALYST

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide technical leadership to the development of the new publishing system, as well as architect technical solutions for achieving greater efficiencies among research staff, editors, and composers, and providing more flexibility in the reuse and repurpose of legal information; (2) design, develop, test, and deploy codes to allow for the integration of purchased software, e.g. Arbortext XML Editor, Documentum Content Management System, NXT/ProPublish Search and Retrieval Software, CheckCite Legal Research Tool, etc.; and (3) troubleshoot and support production staff using existing publishing system tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 8 years experience in Information Technology as a programmer with two years experience in a technical lead role. Proficiency with the technologies:
    • Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/2003
    • XML: XML/XSL/XSLT, DTD, Schema
    • Programming Languages and Development Tools: Java; JavaScript
  • Strong analytical, communication, and team skills.
  • Ability to document complex systems and procedures.
  • Ability to translate CEB's business needs into computer applications.
  • Ability to analyze complex projects and proposals, identify key issues, and suggest reasonable alternatives for automation.
  • Ability to work with technical staff as well as business users.
  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Ability to schedule and work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a development team.
  • Ability to research and evaluate vendor software.
  • Experience with Object Oriented Programming.
  • Experience with electronic text conversion and manipulation, especially using programming languages and scripting to parse text.
  • Experience with version control systems.
  • Experience with bug tracking systems.

DESIRABLE:

  • Content Management System: Documentum and its programming model.
  • XML Editor: Arbortext EPIC Editor and its programming model
  • Knowledge of CEB's products and operations, especially product development cycles.
  • Programming Languages and Development Tools: .NET technology (C# and VB.NET); Visual Basic; Perl; InstallShield.
  • Web application programming.
