Continuing Education of the Bar - California ("CEB" or "we") is committed to ensuring the privacy of its customers and other visitors to its website (the "Site"). We have established this Privacy Policy ("Privacy Policy") to demonstrate our commitment to fair information practices and the protection of your privacy rights.

Information Collection Practices

Types Of Information Collected

TRAFFIC DATA When you visit our Site, we automatically track and collect the following categories of information: (1) your Internet protocol and domain server address; (2) the date and time of your visit to the Site; (3) the type of web browser and operating system you used to access the Site; (4) the web pages that you accessed at the Site; (collectively "Traffic Data"). Traffic Data is anonymous information that does not identify or track you personally. We use Traffic Data to evaluate and improve the content of the Site and to make the Site more useful to visitors. We also use it to diagnose problems with our server, to keep our server running smoothly, and to monitor the number of visitors to the Site and the type of technology they use. COOKIES A "cookie" is a small data file placed on your hard drive by an Internet website server. CEB uses "permanent cookies" in encrypted format as needed for e-commerce transactions to keep track of your shopping cart and process your purchases. These "permanent cookies" contain no information that could personally identify you. CEB uses "temporary session cookies" to authenticate users and maintain the functionality of other online services. With the exception of your CEB account number, these "temporary cookies" contain no information that could personally identify you, and they exist only for the session in which you visit the Site and are not stored. You can refuse to accept the cookie or delete it from your computer by using any of the widely available methods, but if you do so, you may be unable to purchase products and services from CEB online or otherwise access some of the interactive features of the Site.

PERSONAL INFORMATION So that you may access services and purchase the products and services that we offer through the Site, we require you to provide us with certain information that personally identifies you ("Personal Information"). The Personal Information we collect presently includes the following information: (1) your name, (2) address, (3) telephone number, (4) fax number, (5) e-mail address, (6) state bar number, (7) law firm affiliation, (8) legal specialties, (9) User ID, as selected by you, (10) Site password, as selected by you, (11) lost password reminder question, as selected by you, and (12) answer to lost password reminder question. If you communicate with us by e-mail or complete online forms or surveys, information provided by you in such communications may also be collected as Personal Information.


  • E-Commerce CEB uses Personal Information primarily in connection with e-commerce transactions. Credit card transactions on the Site are settled immediately through CyberSource, one of our e-commerce providers. CyberSource handles all traffic between the Site, credit card issuers, and banks. Credit card information is used only for settling the funds needed for you to purchase our products and services. We do not store credit card information either on or outside the Site. A digital certificate issued by Verisign, another e-commerce provider, verifies the identity of the Site as a legitimate CEB e-commerce site.

  • E-Mail From time to time, CEB may send you e mail messages regarding current legal changes and updates or informing you of our products and services that we believe may be of interest to you, including announcements of new titles, upcoming MCLE programs, and special offers.   • Other Uses CEB also uses Personal Information to authorize access to your personalized web pages on the Site (MyCEB), to contact you when necessary, and to authorize access to online services. CEB may track general activities such as searching, printing and search sessions including temporary or short-term storage of an individual identifier.

SHARING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION Except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, CEB does not and will not share any Personal Information regarding CEB's customers or other Site users with any third parties, unless disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a court order or other legal process; (b) protect our rights or property; or (c) enforce our Terms & Conditions. CEB does not sell, rent, exchange, or loan any Personal Information regarding its customers or other Site users to any third parties. For jointly sponsored CLE programs, CEB may transmit registration information to the joint CLE-program sponsor, e.g., the State Bar of California, local bar associations, other bar-related organizations, such as the California Judges Association, or commercial CLE providers, but only as necessary for administration of the program. Such registration information may include Personal Information, such as your name, state bar number, address, telephone number, record of CEB products purchased as part of the joint sponsorship, or record of enrollments at CEB programs that are jointly sponsored.

USER CHOICE REGARDING COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION You may choose not to provide us with any Personal Information. If so, you will be able to access and use some portions of the Site, but you will not be able to purchase CEB products and services or access those parts of the Site that require you to Sign In using your personal User ID and password. CEB has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of Personal Information under our control. These security measures include a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our systems and maintenance of registration information on a server inaccessible to the public. Although CEB exercises reasonable care in providing secure transmission of information between your computer and our servers, CEB cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us over the Internet and accepts no liability for any unintentional disclosure.


The Personal Information we collect is saved in a customer profile in our secure database server. You can help us maintain the accuracy of your profile by notifying us whenever you change your law firm affiliation, address, telephone number, or e-mail address. We maintain a procedure to help you confirm that your Personal Information remains correct and up-to-date. At any time, you may review and change your Personal Information by visiting the Site at, clicking on MyCEB, logging in with your personally-created User ID and Password, and accessing the Personal Information and Specialties functions. After logging in, you may also review the record of your MCLE credits earned from attending CEB programs by accessing the MyCEB MCLE function. You may not correct MCLE credits yourself online, but you may ask for clarification or changes by calling or emailing CEB Customer Service: 1-800-232-3444, 7:30am to 5:00pm (PT), M-F or You may also access and change information about non-CEB courses you have attended through the same MyCEB MCLE function.


The Site contains links to other websites. CEB is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any other websites to which the Site links. This Privacy Policy is applicable only to the Site and not to any other websites that you may be able to access from the Site, each of which may have data collection, storage, and use practices and polices that differ materially from this Privacy Policy.


Your use of our Site, including any dispute concerning privacy, is subject to this Privacy Policy and the Terms & Conditions. By using our site, you are accepting all of the provisions of this Privacy Policy.


CEB reserves the right, at any time and without notice to you, to add to, change, update, or modify this Privacy Policy, simply by posting such change, update, or modification on the Site. Any such change, update, or modification will be effective immediately upon posting on the Site. If updated, the Privacy Policy will note the effective date of the update. Please check the effective date at the top of this page to determine if the policy has been modified since you last reviewed it. If CEB does make significant changes to its Privacy Policy, CEB will endeavor to post a statement to that effect on the Site for at least two months from the effective date of the update; provided, however, that, the Privacy Policy as changed shall be effective despite any failure by CEB to post such a statement. Your continued use of any portion of our Site following posting of the updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
